Tuesday is the big day. We’ve been releasing songs, videos & documentaries all Summer and Fall, and I wanted to drop one more off your way before the EP officially drops via Definition Music/Empire Distribution.
“On My Way” is what we began calling an “experience” song. Not that it’s an epic “Pink-Floyd-Jimi-Hendrix-9-minute-astro-travel”, more that it involves a shitload of musicians and vocalists all pulling together to create a 3 minute piece of music. Specifically, this song features my dude CJ the Cynic, a Cincinnati-based producer/emcee/singer who absolutely destroys the first verse (in my opinion).
One of the goals of this “Nu-Ohio Funk” sound we’ve been building is to bridge the generation gap between the OGs of Ohio Funk and the current generation of amazing musicians and vocalists. Sooooo….
“On My Way” features keys from SUN‘s Dean Hummons, Sr., as well as trumpet/trombone from Dean Simms (touring Ohio Players) & Stan Middleton (touring Stone City Band). Of the current generation of artists, the track also includes Columbus R&B sensation Kim Joyce and Cinci R&B singer Ingrid Rachel, as well as funk bassist Donnie Mossman.

You’ll also notice the official album cover above. The beautiful piece in the center was drawn by a Lawrence, KS-based artist named Jennifer Hunt. I met her on tour a couple years back and she gave me permission to use this piece. So I did. So there.
