J Skillz “King of the Jungle” (f. Ill Poetic)

If you’re familiar with the Cincinnati scene, you might know J Skillz. If the only thing you know about Cincinnati Hip-Hop is the ‘Reflection Eternal’ album from last decade, Skillz is a dude you may want to hop up to speed on.
I’ve known Skillz for some years now. I mostly used to see him in the beat battles.  Honestly, watching him destroy other producers every month is a big reason I chose to go a more unconventional method with my production on these new records. Dude was a constant example for me of why I should probably chill from making more straight-forward hip-hop beats, as I knew I couldn’t compete with shit like that. Not only that, but dude is a beast on the mic. He has this Chuck D baritone in his voice that gets you amped as shit. I love when someone really stretches their voice out, and dude is great at it.

Skillz and I have been meaning to collab forever, and we finally got it off for his new record “King of the Jungle” (download HERE).

The song in question is called “Time for some Action”. It’s produced by Fame & J Skillz, with Skillz on the first 2 verses and myself on the last.

Dude produced the entire piece of epicness around every word of my verse. It was pretty mind-blowing when I listened to the final mix this weekend. So without further ado, enjoy (track 13).

PS – Skillz is having his Cinci release party at the Mad Frog on Saturday, September 8. It should be a really great event.

Was he ever at Top Cats on Wednesday nights?

Good question. I’m not sure. I don’t think he started making noise until after the Top Cats era.
